We are going to give you our top 10 Search engine optimization mistakes that websites have and how to fix them. With these issues fixed will put your website in great position for ranking on major search engines like google, yahoo, and bing.
1. Make Sure Your Website Has Google Analytics
The purpose of Google Analytics is to give you information about how people interact on your website. It gives vital information on how many people visit your website, the time they are on your website and location where your visitors are from. It also gives even more important information on which page they landed on how often people land on that page. Once you become very familiar with using the analytic tool you can get conversion rates to forms. As well information on how often people push certain call to action buttons. All in all Google analytics gives tips on how to improve your web pages to receive more traffic and higher conversion rates.
2. On Page Optimization
Having the proper on-page optimization is very important. On every website and every website page you have Meta Tags, Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions. Meta descriptions are not as important as Meta Titles are. Reason being is because the title of the web page is what helps google determine what page it’s going to call on when a visitor is searching the web. The description is more for “looks” than it is for rank assistance. You never know someone might want to click your website because you have very nice descriptive meta description for that particular page.
Meta tags are used more so in blogging and are very important, but where most go wrong is how they use the meta tags which are the same thing as hash tags. Use tags that are relative to what you are posting about and not random tags that you think is going to help you rank higher.
3. Keyword Optimization
DON’T KEYWORD SMASH!!!! I can’t stress it enough. Keyword smashing will be your quickest way booted off google or not ranking at all. Keyword smashing is when you load your web page with meta keywords. Notice I didn’t add meta keywords to On Page Optimization. All you need is one focus keyword for each web page, no more no less and focus your content on that particular page around that keyword without over using the keyword.
4. Local Search Directories
Add your website to as many directories as possible. We know that doing so can be very cumbersome and annoying and every other word that describes tiring it is to add the same information over and over. So you can go to yext powerlistings to manage all your local directories in one place. With yext if you update one directory and or have multiple locations you can make changes and updates from one central login. Having local directory helps with local rankings and increases your chances of ranking higher than others. Adding your business address and website to directories gives your website more validation for ranking.
5. Anchor Text
Anchor text is very simple, but a very easy task to forget to do. Anchor text dictates what page your link will be most relevant to when searching for best search engine results. You would use anchor text on images and hyper links that link to a page in your website. Another way to look at it is, anchor text describes what the link is about with a keyword.
6. Poorly Written Content
The purpose of content is to inform the reader and or educate the reader. If your content doesn’t make sense and is hard for 10 year old to read than you probably would like to redo your content or get a content writer. If you need a content writer have a talk with Jennifer at World Web Content Writer her and her team are very good with writing SEO content. Another form of poorly written website content is hiring a low pair article writer to write content for your website. Software is used to reword articles to seem unique and it’s probably optimized correctly, but isn’t original and easily noticeable.
If you’re and expert in your field then you should have all the original content from your experiences. Those experiences make you an expert and people would love to hear your advice and tips in your particular industry. If you’re not that great with your words higher someone that is going take your perspective and word it in the most original easily understanding way.
7. Search Console
If you don’t have Google Search Console then you’re missing out on a lot of important information about your website. Inside Google Search Console you are able to tell google how you want your website to show up in search results. You edit how your pages are listed when you google your company.
